“Eight Battles” was intended to be a compilation of representative operations in southern Afghanistan from 2007 to 2009 with additional commentary based on some of my other writings on Afghanistan. Unfortunately, the production process was an unmitigated disaster partly because the book was pushed through publication without the press providing me with the galley proofs to vet. The result:
- The same map appeared twice, one map is missing.
- The selection of font and layout style is more than questionable: it was downright amateurish.
- The editor chose to put his name on the forward to replace one signed by LGen Andrew Leslie, who was at the time time the Army Commander.
- The cover art was selected by the production staff. It depicts a Canadian soldier sitting on his ass and not fighting despite a number of combat photos I provided.
- Typos abound.
I am in the process of having a second edition produced to replace this travesty.
