Ex BOOKCHECK was a planned command post exercise and provides us with a good example of how the Royal Canadian Air Force envisioned a Soviet attack against North America in the dangerous years of the 1961 Berlin Crisis and the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. I used the exercise narrative from the archive and added other contemporary information to give an alternative history feel to the piece. The pictures came from some of my ‘atomic archaeology’ trips to abandoned Cold War facilities.
