Abstract:

Prior to 9/11 and the subsequent scrutiny directed at Special Operations Forces (SOF), Lieutenant Colonel Bernd Horn and I were the only commentators publicly pushing for expanded Canadian special operations forces. “SOF Power is Hard Power” was my amplification of Bernd’s “Burn the Witch” which appeared in an earlier issue of The Army Doctrine and Training Bulletin. Essentially, the “Soft Power” advocates were skittish about the use of SOF. There are those of us that were not. Note that the people who did the lay-out for the journal thought I’d made a typo and mistakenly titled the article “Soft Power is Hard Power” to my chagrin.
